“Living in a city means rubbing shoulders with millions of people every day – on public transport, in apartment buildings and on the streets. That might at first glance seem like an antidote to loneliness. Yet cities can be isolating, solitary places where many of us live entirely anonymously – never knowing who are neighbours are or who lives in the flat downstairs.” —CityMetric
Living in a big city can be so isolating and lonely. The cities like like Shanghai and Beijing need a place where can give people joy, companion and sense of belonging.
Located in Beijing, Twoo Cuup cafe creates shared experiences over a cup of coffee. 2x4 partnered with Twoo Cuup to celebrate the experience of gathering for coffee with an “in pairs” brand identity system. 2x4 led a comprehensive brand refresh, including strategy, naming, and a full design system. The design studio implemented the “in pairs” concept through the brand language, environment, print materials, packaging, and digital. I was honored to participate a part of the project.

In 1977, a graphic designer, Milton Glaser, designed the “I Love NY” logo to promote tourism in the state of New York. Since then, the pop-style graphic became a significant symbol of New York City. “LoveBike” is inspired by this logo to develop a relationship between the city and individuals.
The symbol of LoveBike comes from a 180º degree rotated heart symbol combined with a person riding a bike. The “Love” wordmark is based on the LoveBike symbol. The logo transforms into a consistent visual system to encourage locals and tourists to ride bikes and discover the charm of New York City.

Molecule is a conceptual music/sound capture application inspired by Ryuichi Sakamoto. This Japanese musician revealed the process of capturing different sounds in nature by ‘fishing’ and made them into divine music pieces in his documentary Goda 2017. ‘The world is full of sound. We just don’t usually hear them as music.’ He once said. But what if we can let the users understand nature better by transforming the sounds around us into music? How can we offer people a unique experience to listen to music?
I name this application Molecule, meaning that music is everywhere just like molecules. I was intrigued by the game of Pokémon Go, in which players were able to capture the Pocket Monsters surrounding them. I wish Molecule can bring users a brand new AR experience to catch the music elves around them anytime and anywhere, and those elves will play a piece of music for them. The music formed by Molecule will change from different environmental factors, such as weathers and time. Through collecting the Molecule, I hope that people will be able to learn and to aware of the greatness of nature and its changes better.

Pretty Microbic Festival hosts annually relevant conferences, workshops, biological art collaboration and seminars from experts across the world in the field of microbiology. This branding is dedicated to showcase the beauty of an “unseen world” and unveil the scientific discoveries. Through the vibrant brand identity, we hope more and more people, especially teenagers, will be interested in microbiology.
Day 01: Pretty Fantastic
How can we program bacteria to make art? Scientists know better. Watch synthetic biologist Tal Danino manipulates microorganisms to create eye-catching, colorful patterns.
Day 02: Pretty Dangerous
Scientists and Professors William J. Weiss and A. Simon Lynch will present their research based on 10 most fetal and dangerous antibiotic-resistant bacteria in the festival.
Day 03: Pretty Mysterious
This aims to further strengthen a new, highly interdisciplinary community composed of scientists from different fields and who share a common interest in oscillatory phenomena and biological dynamics. Mysterious relevant discovery will be discussed.

We say "thank you" every day. But do we really appreciate someone by saying it? 'Thanks For' is a plugin that encourages and assists individuals in making their thank you emails to colleagues more personalized and specific.
This solution was inspired by the idea of giving the phrase ‘Thank you’ or ‘Thanks’ more context and personalization so that the receiver truly feels appreciated and cheerful. As a team, we felt that we can also encourage the employees to identify and communicate those details to bring out the true the essence of gratitude.

“I always like to believe that my work is about the expansion of the possibilities of the viewer. So if you have a sense of a heightened situation where there's an excitement, a physical excitement and an intellectual stimulation, there's just this sense of expansion. Because that's where the art happens. Inside the viewer.” —Jeff Koons

Personal Project
For this project, we were asked to design a typographic poster for an artist exhibition. The poster would be an announcement for the show. I chose one of my favorite artists Seth Price as my inspiration. Because the artist held a unique place in contemporary art, rather than settle into one medium or style, he was famous in combining technology with various materials. In 2017, the Stedelijk Museum presented the first survey of the American artist Seth Price.
The director of the Stedelijk underlined:“ Seth Price work traces an important art historical shift from the concept of collage, where chance played a major role and the image was constructed of multiple layers, to the concept of a unified image, which envelops us in an endless, undifferentiated, digital stream.” Inspired by the concept, I intended to connect the idea of collage(or the ‘skins’ of surface in the artist work) with binary digital signal stream in a conceptual way.
The Poster created dynamic, graphic compositions with type, and images. Manipulated variables such as spacing, color, weight, style, size, and legibility in order to create interesting typographic relationships for the show.

In today’s sugar-coated society, the “news of the day” is a packaged commodity designed to entertain and distract people. Online infotainment, personalized searches, and sensationalism discourage intellectual discussion and objective decision-making. In this project, candy serves as a metaphor for the filter bubble that isolates viewers in a narrow ideological echo chamber.

We’ve seen enough utopias and dystopias in the science fiction television series Black Mirror. Some of the speculations probably won’t happen, but some seem like inevitable in the near future. After all, the only constant thing is change.
Since the start of the 2000s, people have witnessed the revolution which effects on different social, cultural, political, and economic aspects of life profoundly. This revolution is the millstone to master the instruments of power, advancement, and modernity in an ever-changing world.
Today, billions of people use their smartphones for communication. Social media revolutions are widespread, while broadband internet connections are extensively used by almost half of the world’s population. People can’t live without a smartphone. However, my question is, what is next?
I expect that the influence of networking will extend and evolve in the future, creating a different world from the one we currently know. People seek for alternatives, like Google Glass and DAQRI smart glasses, to enhance the experience of communication.
There are many challenges, such as the battery, the AR experience in the outdoor environment, and the safety, the providers of smart glasses must overcome. But the idea to create intelligent systems and machines that can be controlled via mobile high-speed broadband telecommunication networks is unstoppable.
I inspired by the Black Mirror and many other sci-fi movies. I create a conceptual brand called Vision. The brand consists of digital glasses and a social interface dedicated to providing people a different interactive experience in the future.
